(Updated 12/23/2025) Hey there, I think it's time to update you on how things are going with building Helicon. If you're just hearing that name, Helicon is the public benefit company we've formed to allow us to create an ecosystem that supports EMDR therapists. We're calling it an "EMDR therapist enablement platform". It's meant to empower you to grow your network, your skills, and your income. Really, it's everything I wish I had on my EMDR therapist journey and everything I've wished I could provide to the other EMDR therapists I've consulted with along the way. The VisionWe have ambitious goals, some are actively in development:
And we have a few more important goals for future development:
At the core, this is a technology company, meant to empower and enable EMDR therapists to grow, and to make EMDR more popular and accessible in the world. As a Public Benefit Corporation, we are able to take on capital investment to help us build (we're in process of finding mission/ethos-aligned investors), but also have a public benefit purpose built into our bylaws, so our business decisions are not solely beholden to stakeholders (I wonder every day why this kind of business structure isn't a requirement for any company in the mental health space). If we are successful and generating profits, we will direct a portion of profits toward advancing EMDR access and research. Watch these podcast interviews to learn more about what led me to building Helicon:
The Current RealityWe are just getting started and have a long way to go, but are excited about the interest and momentum so far. As of December 2025, with very minimal marketing we have almost 70 EMDR providers signed up for our pilot, signaling interest in what we're building. As a temporary place to connect, providers who sign up are invited to join a private Signal channel and share resources or ask questions among the group. We've grown a team of 2 cofounders and 11 advisors, strategically adding more advisors as we go. Our advisory team includes 4 licensed therapists (3 EMDR consultants and 1 niche directory builder), 3 financial professionals, 1 marketing professional, 2 community management pros, 1 business development expert. Building the TechnologyWe have around 64,000 lines of code written and are preparing to test with live users (thank you to those who have volunteered)! We're engaging with a skilled development team to review the code and ensure nothing is missed before it is shared publicly. Aiming for a wider release by May of 2026. Stay ConnectedI could say more but this is already getting long. If you want to stay in the loop, be sure to sign up (link above) or connect with me on LinkedIn, where I post about this regularly. Also, I'd love to hear what you think about all this. I appreciate words of encouragement or constructive criticism. Hit reply and let me know what you think! And feel free to forward this on to any EMDR colleagues you know who might be interested. A weekly dose of insights, tools, and opportunities for EMDR therapists; designed to support your growth, sharpen your practice, and connect you with what's next.
Hey there, Recently we talked about EMDR protocols for addiction treatment (DeTUR, CravEx, FSAP) and the technical pieces you need to know to work with substance use disorders. But here's what I didn't talk about: What can happen inside you when you're sitting across from someone in recovery. Specifically, the trust problem. Imagine this scenario: You're three sessions into trauma processing with a client who says they've been sober for six months. They're doing well, engaging with the...
The EMDR Therapist Weekly aims to provide a weekly dose of insights, tools, and opportunities for EMDR therapists; designed to support your growth, sharpen your practice, and connect you with what's next. To achieve this, we occasionally invite subject matter experts as guest writers. So this week, I'm excited to introduce another guest writer, Gail Neves, LMHC. Gail is a fierce advocate for psychedelic ethics and social justice. They have been practicing trauma focused therapy for 20 years...
Hey there, Here's a question I get asked fairly often: "Can EMDR help with addiction?" The short answer is yes, but probably not in the way most therapists assume. A lot of therapists think addiction treatment with EMDR means processing the underlying trauma (the childhood abuse, the attachment wounds, the adverse experiences that led to substance use). Then the client stays sober because you've resolved the root cause. And sure, that's part of it. Most clients with substance use disorders do...
