Playing the “Long Game” in Mental Health

Hey there,

If you’re like most EMDR clinicians I know, you came into this field because you believe in the power of healing.

You’ve seen EMDR help people process trauma, rebuild lives, and uncover strengths they didn’t know they had. That’s the beauty of our work: we see transformation in real time.

But here’s the challenge (forgive me as I hop on my soap box for a minute): as powerful as EMDR can be one-on-one, the system we work in isn’t built to sustain that transformation. Too often, therapists are isolated, underpaid, and scrambling for referrals. Too often, clients face waitlists, mismatches, or insurance barriers that keep them from the care they need.

You and I, and our clients and the communities we serve, deserve better.

That’s why we need to start thinking about the long game.

Lasting change in mental health isn’t about adding another quick fix to a broken system. It requires:

  • Prevention over reaction: making resilience and early intervention a priority, not an afterthought.
  • Collaboration over silos: therapists, agencies, and communities working together instead of in isolation.
  • Infrastructure over patchwork: building systems that make quality care easier to deliver and easier to access.
  • Sustainability over burnout: ensuring therapists can thrive, not just survive, in this work.

And here’s the truth: none of us can do that alone.

That’s why I started building Helicon.

Helicon is building an ecosystem for EMDR therapists who want more than survival. It’s where you will be able to:

  • Streamline your path to certification with consultation matching and competency tracking.
  • Join a supportive community of like-minded clinicians working toward the same goals.
  • Gain visibility to aligned clients through a vetted directory designed for high-stakes professions.
  • Keep growing your practice and skillset with ongoing training, resource sharing, and collaboration opportunities.

Because the long game isn’t just about changing outcomes for clients. It’s about creating a future where EMDR therapists aren’t isolated, where advanced skills are rewarded, and where the system finally supports the quality of care we know is possible.

None of this is easy. It won’t happen overnight. But if we stay committed… linking arms, building infrastructure, and playing the long game… we can reshape the landscape of mental health together.

Imagine if we could create the same kind of transformational change for the systems we operate in, as we see every day with our clients?

That’s exactly what Helicon aims to do. I hope you’ll join us!

Onward,

Chris

Hey there, As an EMDR therapist, you already know healing happens when you tailor your approach to your client's needs. But let's be real: That depth and attunement is not always the case for far too many clinicians and clients today. Not due to lack of trying, but due to the systems they operate within. In other words, we’re seeing an influx of massive, profit-driven entities increasingly setting the terms of how therapy is delivered. And sadly, this usually means a prioritization of...

Hey there, Have you ever found yourself excitedly sharing about a powerful EMDR resourcing exercise or an “aha moment” in the assessment phase… only to be met with blank stares from your non-EMDR colleagues? It's like you've suddenly started speaking a foreign language! As EMDR practitioners, we have our own unique “lingo” (i.e. shorthanded ways of communicating complex concepts central to our approach). Terms like "bilateral stimulation," "touchstone event," or "future template" roll off our...
